Where have you been living in a cave?
The term "SUPERFOODS" is now everywhere. Even supermarkets have begun labelling their "health" foods with the labels "contains superfoood this and that.
It was the raw food world that coined the term originally back in the early 90's. Since then it has become one of the "key" in words, and according to some if you are not doing enough superfoods then your journey towards raw superbeing status is simply not possible!
Here are a list of the most popular Super foods:
- Cacao - aka Raw chocolate. Comes in beans, nibs, powder and butter form. The ancient Gods used to eat buckets of the stuff so that proves that its highly nutritious and good for you especially if you have God like powers of digestion and elimination like the ancient Gods used to have. If you have a regular digestive system then you might like to take it easy
- Maca - aka Natures Viagra. Maca is sold in powder form and is derived from the hardy maca plant which happens to be a member of the humble common to the shores of England turnip family. Many people are stuffing this superfood down their throats in order to experience the increased sexual vitality that its vendors claim. Some people swear that its maca that has given them super powers in the bedroom. Having had some success with the stuff myself I have to say that consumers should be aware of eating this stuff in public places, especially when combined with raw asparagus, nuts, melons and cucumbers.
- Hemp - Sold as hulled seeds (with the hard shell...or is that without the shell) and unhulled (without the hard shell...or is that with the shell). They can be eaten as a snack or added to recipes and smoothies and used as decoration on raw pies. Hemp is reknowned for being a perfect food for humans, a great source of protein and containing a perfect balance of Essential Fatty Acids (EFA's). If you consume too many of the wrong variety you could find yourself on a rocket ship heading towards planet Neptune.
- Goji Berries - These small red berries were discovered by a goat herder who noticed that his goats were more vibrant than all the other goats from neighbouring villages who did not have the strange red berry bush. After researching the berries it was discovered that they have incredibly high levels of lots of vitamins and minerals especialy Vitamin C. They also taste pretty good too. Now-a-days you can find them growing in the UK. Even my Aunty has a Gojo plant growing in her back garden! However there are not enough to fill a small packet so please do not descend on her house to eat them.
Each day a new "super food" is discovered and brought to market from some far away distant land that nobody has ever heard of. This is a result of the relentless struggle to find a single food that can be eaten that provides you and your body with EVERYTHING that it needs.
What a bonus that would be and how simple it would be to be healthy. Unfortunately I fear that this search may take some time..it may be that the Holy Grail is found before it. Maybe the holy grail contains a superfood! Now there's a thought!
Will eating these super foods make you into a super human?
This is the hope of many aspiring raw food newbie's. Olympic swimming champion Michael Phelps doesn't eat any of the regular superfoods mentioned on this list and he could technically be classed as a super human. I have eaten a fair few and could easily be beaten by most people in a swimming race, so surely there has to be more to being a super human?
Does eating a superfood make you more friendlier, do they make you want to help people more? Indirectly they could do that because if they did provide your body with more nutrients that your body needed, then you would technically have more energy to do these things and be a better human.
But what if those superfoods didn't give your body anything that it needed, and what if your body couldn't digest them...what then?
- Could it possibly be that one persons super food could be some one else's NOT SO SUPER FOOD?
- Should all foods that give your body something that it needs be classed as super foods?
What I suggest you do is consider all high quality, fresh, ripe, raw, fruits and vegetables that you can digest as superfoods.
Remember that there isn't just one food thats going to all you ever need. A varied balanced diet that makes you emotionally happy and gives you the energy to do what you want to do is what you ultimately need.
