My name is Pete Vincent, founder of RAW HUMOUR.
I have been interested in the field of health for over 15 years now. After years and years of investigating deeper and deeper into the complex workings of the human body what I discovered was, that the more you discover, the more you begin to realise how little we actually know about the human body!
I began to get confused at all the conflicting information out there and the arguments between "experts" who all thought they were right and that you should buy their ebooks and buy their products.
For 5 years I ran The Fresh Network, one of the UK's largest pioneering raw food health companies. I was in a unique position to speak to thousands of people all of whom were trying to find ways of improving their health for a whole host of reasons, all experiencing varying degrees of success and failure despite eating what many consider to be the ultimate healthy diet.
I began to get frustrated and wanted to know why some people who were trying their best to be healthy were often experiencing worse health than some people who were just living life to the full and eating what ever they liked it seemed?
I myself experienced my own ups and downs and good moments and bad whilst trying to follow the raw food diet. 6 months into raw and I had never ever felt so good. I was an airport firefighter at the time and so my work was often very physically demanding. (There were also times when my job was very physically undemanding but we won't go into that) I pretty much went raw over night and skipped out the whole going vegetarian before going vegan thing and went 100% raw vegan!
Like I said, for a while things went well and I felt a level of energy I had never experienced before. Then I hit a plataeu and began losing a lot of weight, which I was told at the time, by various raw food gurus, was normal and that all I had to do was keep going until my body had cleared out and then my body would begin to rebuild.
By the the time the above 2003 firefighter calender came out in 2004, I had gone from about 15 and a half stone to less than 13! The evening before I was to appear with Lorraine Kelly and Dr Hilary on GMTV talking about The Raw Food Diet, I suddenly looked at myself in a mirror at my hotel and a guant reflection looked back at me! What was I doing? I think I even ordered a chicken cesar salad from room service to try and put on weight over night!!!!
The lowest point for me was when Lorraine was looking at the picture of me as Mr November 2003 on screen (and to over 5,000,000 viewers) and mentioned that I had lost "an aweful lot of weight".
I was mortified! From the age of 17 when I had joined the RAF, I did everything I could to try and put on weight so as not to be "skinny" any more! To my mind then, all that hard work of eating 3 or 4 meals a day and drinking loads of beer had been undone in less than a year.
To cut a long story short what had happened was that I had lost sight of my emotional happiness. This is what I noticed in others too, that people who were happy and who were doing the things that they loved were the ones who were generally experiencing better health. The people who were eating the healthy food but who were still angry and fearful and worried about everything, and who weren't doing anything but eat healthy food whilst waiting for the food to make them healthy, so that they could then start doing stuff, were usually the ones who were experiencing poor health.
This was my reason for starting RAW HUMOUR. There is a very serious reason I am doing what I am doing, and that is to try and steer people clear of the potential dangers lurking out there in the health world. Yes I want to help educate people about the potential benefits of eating certain foods, but I also want to remind people to take control of their own health and to stay focused on their emotional happiness, not forgetting all the other factors that have to be addressed if you ever want to be truly happy. Being healthy is a thing you do, not a diet you follow. My health journey has led me out into the world of gardening.
So don't become a fanatical, angry, self rightious obsessive healthy eater who loses all their friends. Join me on my journey to finding a happier healthier balanced way of living.
